Bremerhaven grew into one of Germany's main North Sea ports, and this view of its lighthouse shows the working edge of that harbor life. The title also names Hanover, but Bremerhaven lies well to the northwest in the state of Bremen, so the label probably mixes up two places. The picture is a photochrom, a multicolor printing process, and it was issued in America by the Detroit Publishing Company as part of a German series dating from about 1890 to 1900. Such prints gave armchair travelers vivid color glimpses of places they might never see.
