Lowestoft, the most easterly town in England, sits on the Suffolk coast, and this view centers on the lighthouse above the Score, the shoreline area named in the title. The print is a photochrom, a process developed in Switzerland in the 1880s that combined photographic negatives with hand-applied color from stone plates, giving the image a glossy, saturated finish. Detroit Publishing Company issued it in its 1905 catalog of English views, where it carries the number 10844.
