Hunstanton is a seaside town on the Wash coast of Norfolk, and this view shows its lighthouse standing above the shoreline where a resort was growing up in the late 1800s. The picture is a photochrom, a process developed in Switzerland in the 1880s that built a color image from several lithographic stones, each inked in a different hue. The Detroit Publishing Company, which held American rights to the process, issued many such views of Britain and Europe for tourists and armchair travelers, and this print appeared in its 1905 catalog of English scenes.
