The Kochbrunnen is one of Wiesbaden's hot springs, and its mineral water rises hot enough to steam, which gave the spot its name, "boiling well." The picture shows it in the 1890s, when Wiesbaden, then part of the Prussian province of Hesse-Nassau, drew European visitors who came to take the waters. The print was made by the photochrom process, which built up color from several printed stone plates, and the Detroit Publishing Company included it in its 1905 catalog of German views.
