This sixth-plate daguerreotype shows Anne Dudley Roberts as a girl, posed three-quarters length and facing the camera. Its surface was hand-colored, a common practice in the 1840s and 1850s, when painters added tints to cheeks, lips, and clothing to soften the silver-toned image. The photographer is unidentified, but the portrait belongs to a period when daguerreotypes were prized as affordable keepsakes sealed in small cases. The record places it within the Ellery C. Stowell Papers at the Library of Congress, transferred from the Manuscript Division in 1955.
