A Washington portrait studio, Harris & Ewing, made this 1910 photoprint of Henry A. du Pont, a member of the Delaware du Pont family who served in the U.S. Senate from 1906 to 1917. The title's "Sir" does not match any honor he is known to have held, so the caption card's details should be treated as unverified. Harris & Ewing, founded in Washington in 1905, became one of the capital's busiest portrait studios, photographing officials, legislators and visitors during the early twentieth century, when Washington was becoming the center of national politics.
