Henry Knox is shown here as a reproduction of a painting by Charles Willson Peale, and the caption card notes that it was later printed in a Bowen work on the centennial of Washington, a book marking the 100th anniversary of George Washington's birth. Knox was a Boston bookseller who became Washington's chief of artillery, and in the winter of 1775-76 he hauled cannon from Fort Ticonderoga to Boston, a feat that helped push the British out of the city. He later served as the first Secretary of War. The card records no date for this print, so its exact date of publication is unknown.
