Unlike the many resort views in this set, this one puts the Hotel Ormond on the Halifax River, with the piers and wharves in the subject record pointing to the hotel's waterfront setting. The Ormond Beach area drew wealthy winter visitors from the Northeast and Midwest in the early 1900s, and the hotel was one of the best-known places to stay there. The Detroit Publishing Company, which photographed American towns, railroads and resorts for travel promotion, made this 8 by 10 inch glass negative sometime between 1900 and 1915. Its record also notes the photograph was later given to the State Historical Society of Colorado.
