Garfield Park in Indianapolis is the focus here, and the record also lists a bridge among its subjects, which sets this view apart from general scenes of the park. The park was named for President James A. Garfield, who was assassinated in 1881, and by the early 1900s it had become a place where city residents walked, picnicked, and enjoyed its landscaped grounds. The picture is an 8 by 10 inch glass dry plate negative, a format favored by commercial view makers for its sharp detail. It came from the Detroit Publishing Company, which sold views of American towns and landscapes across the country.
