Few posters from 1949 pair a rescue theme with a national flag as directly as this one, whose title calls for a special effort to help a nation under siege. The inscription "Palestine '49" places it in the months after the 1948 war, when the young state of Israel was absorbing new immigrants and depended on support from Jewish communities abroad. The stamp noting a loan from an outdoor advertising company in Cleveland, Ohio, suggests the campaign also reached American streets. Chromolithography, a process that layers several color stones, gave such posters their bold, saturated look.
