A drawbridge and a group of foreign visitors set this drawing apart from other Japanese views in the collection. The Library of Congress lists it in the David Murray Collection and credits Isoda Koryūsai, an ukiyo-e artist active from about 1764 to 1788, but the dates in the record conflict: 1750 for the work and 1850 to 1900 for the Tokyo subject. Tokyo was called Edo until 1868, when the city was renamed after the Meiji Restoration and opened to foreign residents, so the later date fits the subject better than the artist's working years do.
