Its record singles out a drawbridge in Tokyo as the central subject, with foreign visitors noted among those shown. The catalog credits the drawing to Isoda Koryūsai, an Edo-period painter and printmaker active from about 1764 to 1788, so the 1750 date in the record sits oddly with his working years. The subject tags point instead to the decades between 1850 and 1900, when the city, then called Edo until its renaming in 1868, was opening to foreign residents and travelers. The drawing is worth studying for both its architecture and the visitors crossing it.
