Governor Elbert Trinkle of Virginia stands at the dedication of Kenmore, the Fredericksburg house built in the 1770s for Fielding Lewis and his wife, Betty Washington Lewis, a sister of George Washington. The event on May 9, 1925, reflected growing public interest in preserving Virginia's colonial-era homes as historic sites. The National Photo Company, a Washington commercial studio known for recording official and civic events, made the image on a glass negative. Faint streaks and blemishes across the plate are typical of aging glass negatives and add to its value as a record of the period.
