Buckman Tavern in Lexington, Massachusetts, is the building where Captain John Parker's militia gathered before the fighting on Lexington Green on April 19, 1775, the opening action of the American Revolution. This 8 x 10 inch glass negative comes from the Detroit Publishing Company, whose photographers traveled widely in the early 1900s documenting American landmarks for postcards and printed views. Its date range of roughly 1910 to 1920 falls within the years when the tavern, a long-standing colonial inn, was drawing growing attention as a patriotic site and was preserved as a museum. The record places the negative in the Library of Congress collection.
