Few buildings in Massachusetts are tied to the start of the Revolution as closely as Buckman Tavern, which stands on Lexington Green. Built in 1690, it was where Captain John Parker's militia gathered before dawn on April 19, 1775, to meet British troops marching from Boston. The Detroit Publishing Company, known for travel views of American landmarks, made this glass negative sometime between 1910 and 1930, a period of growing interest in colonial sites. The negative was copied from an earlier photographic print.
