Munroe Tavern in Lexington, Massachusetts, is the building that served as British Lieutenant Colonel Hugh Percy's headquarters on April 19, 1775, when his relief column stopped here during the retreat from Concord. The tavern later became a museum run by the Lexington Historical Society, which is why the record ties the building to both its tavern past and its place in the battle story. This glass negative was made by the Detroit Publishing Company between 1900 and 1930, a period when colonial-era sites like this one were drawing growing numbers of visitors and tourists. The picture shows the building as a historic landmark, not just an old inn.
