The Jade Room at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York is the subject here, a glass-plate view of a gallery given over to carved jade objects. The Detroit Publishing Company, a commercial firm that produced and sold photographs of American places and scenes around the turn of the twentieth century, made the negative around 1907. Its large 8 by 10 inch format captured fine detail in the room's cabinets and displays, and the image gives a sense of how the Met presented its Asian decorative arts in the early years of the museum's collection-building.
