Promoting a fair still five years off, this poster was printed for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition, which opened in San Francisco in 1915. Its caption card dates the piece to 1910, which is unverified and may reflect when the lithograph was made rather than when it was displayed. The fair marked the completion of the Panama Canal and showed how far San Francisco had come since the 1906 earthquake and fire, when much of the city was destroyed. Posters like this one were meant to draw visitors and publicity from across the country and abroad.
