The Indian Court at the Federal Building was one of the federal exhibits at the Golden Gate International Exposition, held in 1939 and 1940 on Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay. This silkscreen poster was made under the Federal Art Project of the Works Progress Administration to promote that display. Its subjects, which include bison hunting, subsistence activities and arts and crafts, reflect the exhibit's focus on Native American daily life. Silkscreen suited WPA poster work because it produced flat, saturated color that stood out on city streets and fairground walls.
