The Indian Court at the Federal Building of the Golden Gate International Exposition is the subject here, and the record points to Haida crafts and woven blankets among the works shown. The fair opened in 1939 on Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay, and its Native American displays presented Indigenous craft to fairgoers. The poster was issued under the Federal Art Project of the Work Projects Administration, the New Deal agency that employed artists through the Depression. Its flat, layered color reflects the silkscreen process the program used to make inexpensive posters.
