The Indian Court at the Golden Gate International Exposition, held on Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay in 1939 and 1940, gave Native American craftwork a prominent place at the fair. The record's subject headings point to Pomo basketry, a tradition from north-central California that drew wide admiration for its fine weaving. This silkscreen poster was produced under the Federal Art Project of the Works Progress Administration, one of the New Deal programs that employed artists to promote public events. Its bold color and flat shapes reflect the graphic style of the era's publicity art.
