Rather than a general fair notice, this silkscreen advertises the Indian Court inside the Federal Building at the Golden Gate International Exposition, the 1939 fair held on Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay. The court's displays drew attention to Native American arts and crafts and to ceremonial dancing, and the subject headings in the record point to Apache dancers and the spiritual life behind their performances. The Works Progress Administration produced the poster as part of its wider effort to publicize federal programs and public events, and its flat, bold color shows the graphic style of that period.
