The Olympiastadion in Berlin was built for the 1936 Summer Games, and this print comes from a photographic album Leni Riefenstahl assembled to document the XI Olympiad that year. Riefenstahl was already known as a filmmaker, and she was given extraordinary access to the Games, which were staged by the Nazi government as a showcase for the regime. The stadium, designed by Werner March, was meant to project monumental scale and national pride, and images like this one helped carry that message beyond Germany. The record notes that its attribution comes from an unverified caption card, so the print's exact details are worth checking against other sources.
