Crown Prince Wilhelm of Germany stands beside an airplane with Orville Wright and Hart O. Berg in this 1909 view taken in Berlin. That year Wright was demonstrating his flying machine in Germany, and Berg, the Wrights' European agent, helped arrange the flights. The Crown Prince's presence shows how seriously the German military and public took powered flight only six years after the Wrights' first flight at Kitty Hawk. The caption data is unverified, so the exact occasion is best read within that demonstration tour.
