The Walter Reed General Hospital in Washington, D.C., was named for Army surgeon Walter Reed, whose experiments proved that mosquitoes transmit yellow fever. The National Photo Company, a commercial firm that documented the capital in the early twentieth century, made this glass negative. Its title comes from the company's own unverified notes, and the date range is estimated from similar negatives. Streaks and blemishes across the glass come from the original coating deteriorating over time.
