This color print shows La Catedral in Havana, the Baroque church on the Plaza de la Catedral in Old Havana, dedicated to Saint Christopher. Construction began in 1748 under Jesuit direction and continued for decades, and its twin-towered facade and limestone walls became one of the city's most recognizable colonial landmarks. The image was issued around 1900 by the Detroit Photographic Company, which produced photochrom prints, a process that used a photographic negative and multiple hand-prepared stones to add color. Such views were popular with American travelers and collectors during the years after the Spanish-American War.
