This picture, titled simply *Habana* and dated around 1964, is tied in its record to Havana's Capitolio and the plazas around it, a domed civic building that stood out on the city's skyline. The Capitolio was completed in 1929 as the seat of the Cuban Congress, and after the 1959 revolution it came to house scientific institutions. A print from the mid-1960s shows the square in the early years of the new government, when public spaces like this were central to daily life in the capital. Its large architecture and open plaza make it a useful view of how central Havana looked at that time.
