Few pictures on this board pair two men from the oil and advertising worlds like this one does: advertising executive Albert Lasker and Walter B. Teagle, who led Standard Oil of New Jersey. The record dates the exposure to May 8, 1923, but that date comes from notes on the negative sleeve and has not been independently verified. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., studio, produced many portraits and event images in the capital during the early twentieth century, and its glass plates were later given to the Library of Congress. The streaks and coating loss on this negative are typical of glass plates of that age.
