Fans queued outside the Polo Grounds before seven in the morning, and the Bain News Service camera recorded the scene in 1911 or 1912. The Polo Grounds, in Upper Manhattan, was home to the New York Giants, and it hosted World Series games in both of those years. The early line likely reflects crowds gathering for tickets well before the gates opened. Bain News Service, a New York photo agency run by George Grantham Bain, supplied news pictures to newspapers, so images like this one show how big baseball games drew crowds in the early 1910s.
