Glenarm is a small coastal village on the east coast of County Antrim, in Northern Ireland, and this photochrom shows it as it looked in the 1890s. The image comes from the Detroit Publishing Company, which bought the Swiss photochrom process in the 1890s and issued hand-colored-looking views of towns, landscapes and monuments across Europe and North America. Photochroms were made by transferring a black-and-white photograph onto multiple lithographic stones, one for each color, so the printed result has a soft, painterly finish. Its catalog number, 12075, places it in the company's large Irish series.
