Leibnitz House in Hanover takes its name from the philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, who worked in the city for much of his career as a court counselor and librarian. Its timbered Renaissance façade is typical of the old town houses that once lined Hanover's center. This print was made by the photochrom process, which built up color from several lithographic stones printed over a photograph. The Detroit Publishing Co. sold views like this one to American audiences, and its 1905 catalog listed the scene among its German subjects.
