The title names The Roadstead at Bremerhafen, a North Sea port on the Weser estuary. A roadstead is the sheltered water offshore where ships wait to enter harbor or load, and Bremerhaven grew into a major departure point for transatlantic liners in the 1890s. The print uses the photochrom process, a Swiss method that combined several lithographic stones to produce color, and the Detroit Publishing Company issued these views in the United States. The catalog entry lists it among its German views and dates it between about 1890 and 1900.
