Horseshoe Falls, the larger of the two cataracts at Niagara, is seen here from Table Rock, the ledge on the Canadian side that drew sightseers to the brink for much of the 19th century. The original overhang collapsed in 1850, but the viewpoint remained a favorite for visitors. Detroit Publishing Co. issued this c1898 color print, made by its photochrom process, which was widely sold as a souvenir of the resort. The cool greens and whites of the water and rock show how the company tried to mimic hand-colored views for tourists.
