Horseshoe Falls takes its name from the curve of its crest, not from anything equine, which makes it an odd fit for a gallery board about horses. This color print shows the falls from Table Rock, a limestone ledge on the Canadian side that once jutted over the gorge and gave visitors a close look at the water. The Detroit Publishing Co. issued many views like this in the 1890s and early 1900s, using a color process that was then a novelty in travel pictures. Its Niagara scenes helped shape how the falls were pictured for a national audience.
