This panoramic print, at nearly 30 inches wide, shows the Boston City Hospital on Harrison Avenue in the South End, the city's public hospital and a major teaching hospital tied to Harvard Medical School. The wide format was well suited to capturing the long façade of a large institutional complex. The print was made on silver printing-out paper and registered for copyright in November 1903 by the firm E. Chickering & Co., whose imprint appears on the front. That registration deposit is why the image survives in the Library of Congress collections today.
