Few film posters of the 1920s show a city as towering and crowded as this German color lithograph for *Metropolis*, credited to Klebrand in the record. Fritz Lang's silent science fiction film was made by UFA in Berlin in the mid-1920s and reached theaters in early 1927, so this 1926 poster belongs to its promotion. The story imagines a future city split between wealthy planners above and laborers below, a vision that made the film a landmark of the genre. German film posters of this era were built to be read quickly from a street wall, and this one shows that goal clearly.
