Heber's Ghyll is a wooded ravine cut by a stream near Ilkley, the spa town in Wharfedale, West Yorkshire, and "ghyll" is the northern English word for such a steep, narrow glen. Late Victorian visitors came to walk its paths and watch the water tumble over the rocks, making it a favorite excursion from the town. This print uses the photochrom process, a Swiss method of building up photographs in several layers of color, and the Detroit Publishing Company issued it in America in its 1905 catalog of English views.
