C.E. Reynolds's *Mystery of Broadwalk Asylum* is a 1936 silkscreen poster from the Federal theater Project in Los Angeles, a unit of the Works Progress Administration that employed theater workers during the Depression and staged low-cost productions for local audiences. WPA poster artists used silkscreen's flat, bold areas of color, which could be printed cheaply in quantity and posted on storefronts and public walls. Today the poster is valued both as a piece of 1930s graphic design and as a record of the city's theater life in that period.
