Titled for the 1900 Exposition Universelle, this photochrom print belongs to a series of color views of French architecture and landmarks. The fair opened in Paris in April 1900 on the Champ de Mars and along the Seine, drawing tens of millions of visitors and showcasing the Grand Palais, the Petit Palais and the Pont Alexandre III, alongside the Eiffel Tower built for the 1889 fair. The photochrom process, developed by the Zurich-based Photochrom Co., combined a photograph with multiple lithographic stones to produce vivid color, and such images were sold as souvenirs and postcards. The record's date range ends just before the fair opened, so the print may have been issued in anticipation of the event.
