The Palais du Trocadéro, a white stone building on the Chaillot hill, stands at the Paris end of the Pont d'Iéna in this view, with the Seine and the fair grounds beyond it. The palace was built for the 1878 exposition and remained a landmark during the 1900 Exposition universelle, when its terraces and fountains drew large crowds. The card was published by Underwood & Underwood, a firm that sold stereographs in great numbers. Viewed through a stereoscope, the two nearly identical photographs on the card blend into a single image with depth.
