The plan of the grounds for the 1876 Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia, published in Harper's Weekly on May 27, 1876, lays out the fairgrounds in Fairmount Park before the gates opened. It shows the main exhibition buildings, the Machinery Hall, Memorial Hall, and Horticultural Hall arranged across the park's grounds, each marked so readers could follow the layout. The fair marked the 100th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, and the Harper's Weekly audience would have used a map like this to picture a visit before ever setting foot in the park.
