The Trübsee hotel stood beside a small alpine lake that the record places in the Bernese Oberland, in high country that drew walkers and travelers in the late 1800s as Swiss mountain tourism grew. This print was made by the Photochrom process, a color method developed in Zürich in the late 1880s that gave photographs a soft, hand-painted look. Its catalog number, 8353, places it in a *Views of Switzerland* series that was sold widely to visitors and armchair travelers of the period.
