Titled *Favorites of the harem*, this stereograph places its scene in Constantinople, the Ottoman capital, around 1900. Underwood & Underwood issued many such paired views for home stereoscopes and travel armchairs. Western audiences were drawn to harem subjects, which photographers often staged in studios with costumes and props rather than recording actual domestic life. The caption details are unverified, so the card is best read as a view of how the Ottoman world was imagined abroad.
