The Sullivan-Kilrain bout pitted heavyweight champion John L. Sullivan against Jake Kilrain in Richburg, Mississippi, in July 1889. It ran 75 rounds under London Prize Ring rules and is often called the last heavyweight championship bare-knuckle fight. This stereograph, issued around 1889 by Niagara Falls photographer George Barker, is titled "The last round--victor and vanquished," which frames the pair as winner and loser at the close. Barker was better known for scenic views of the falls, so a prizefight card shows how stereo views also captured the sporting news of the day.
