Rather than a single view of the sky, this halftone reproduces a drawing that places Halley's Comet as it appeared in 1835 beside other comets seen across the previous century and into 1910. It ran in the *Illustrated London News* on April 23, 1910, while the comet was returning and drawing wide public attention. The 1835 apparition was among the most closely watched of the era, and newspapers and observatories followed the 1910 return just as closely, with some readers anxious about what the comet's approach might mean. The picture shows how a periodical turned a familiar visitor into a lesson in the history of comet observation.
