Two of the most recognizable names in interwar aviation appear together in this group portrait, with Amelia Earhart and Army Air Corps officer Carl Spaatz standing among seven other people. The record dates the print only to between about 1928 and 1937, a span that covers Earhart's rise to fame after her 1928 transatlantic flight. Spaatz, a pioneering military pilot, went on to lead American air forces in both World War II and the early Cold War. The record does not identify the other sitters or the occasion, so the setting is best read as a gathering of people from the flying community of the period.
