This photograph shows the two men as the title describes: President Woodrow Wilson and former President William Howard Taft, bowing in a gesture the caption reads as deference to the voters. The record dates it to around March 29, 1913, though the note marks that date as unverified. Taft had lost the 1912 election, in which Wilson won the presidency after a three-way race that also included Theodore Roosevelt running on the Progressive ticket. Wilson had taken office on March 4, 1913, so the picture captures the first weeks of a sharp change of administration. The print was issued by Underwood & Underwood, a firm known for mass-produced news and stereo photographs.
