Few houses in Buffalo are drawn with as much sweep as this residence, which Frank Lloyd Wright designed for the Martin family, with its long horizontal lines and rooms spread across the site. The plate is one of the drawings in the 1910 Berlin portfolio published by Ernst Wasmuth, which collected Wright's built works and projects and did much to introduce his Prairie School designs to European architects. The plans show how the living spaces, terraces and gardens connect, a departure from the narrow, boxed-in Victorian houses common in the city at the time.
