Faneuil Hall's Committee Room appears here in measured drawings rather than in a photograph, a record kept by the Historic American Buildings Survey, the federal documentation program begun in 1933 to preserve detailed records of significant American structures. The elevations and plan show the room's wall arrangement, paneling and proportions as they stood when surveyors recorded them. Faneuil Hall, built in 1742 as a marketplace with a meeting hall above, became known as the "Cradle of Liberty" for the colonial town meetings held there. Drawings like these are valued by historians and restorers because they capture the building's fabric in precise, measurable detail.
