Set against the American-side prospects that more often appear in Niagara prints, this color lithograph shows the falls from the Canadian shore, where the Horseshoe Falls curve toward the viewer. Published by Currier & Ives in New York around 1868, it was painted by B. Hess and drawn by Parsons & Atwater, and it belongs to a long run of popular views that made Niagara a fixture of American parlor walls after the Civil War. By then railroads had turned the falls into a major travel destination, and the print reflects that appetite for scenery. Worth noticing is how the color work renders the mist and the rushing water that drew visitors there.
